Mise-en-scene video feedback and learner response
1) Type up your feedback from your teacher in full.
WWW:
- Excellent props
- Excellent make-up
- Excellent cinematography
- Body language/expressions
EBI:
- Audio levels right
- Abrupt ending
2) Type up a summary of the feedback you have had from the rest of the class - bullet points is fine.
WWW:
- Good script
- Costume is correct
- Good facial expression
- Good use of makeup
- Accurate props
- Similar setting
EBI:
- Some scenes are choppy
- Abrupt ending
3) Use all the feedback you've been given to write your own self-assessment of your video using WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If...)
I would say that our costumes and makeup were accurate as well as our props. Furthermore, I think my plan to use red card on the walls to recreate that red wall from the original scene was good as it created a similar setting. However, I think I could improve within the editing area as my audio levels made the characters conversations unclear and I could also make sure my clips were times perfectly and fit the required time as i had to makeup for the missing time with an abrupt ending.
4) Now reflect on your own work in more detail. How did your planning (script, shot list) help clarify and develop your ideas?
The script helped us understand our roles more clearly and act in a more accurate way and the shot list also allowed us to be prepared for what shot was next instead of having to look back over the original clip which saved us more time for editing.
5) Thinking technically, how could you improve your work for future videos? (E.g. filming, editing, audio levels etc.)
For next time, I want to improve on my audio levels, more specifically to make conversations between characters more clear, as during my GCSE course work this was also a problem before I was able to fix it. I also will remember to record longer clips to make sure I don't have to create an abrupt ending when editing like I did during this task as it was a way to make up for the missing time.
6) Finally, what have you learned regarding the importance of mise-en-scene in film and television? Write a paragraph to answer this.
Through seeing how my planning in CLAMPS has influenced my feedback it was clear to see how influential and important mise-en-scene is to create meaning which is highly important as mise-en-scene communicates information on multiple things such as the characters or even the plot. However, mise-en-scene's main importance to film and television industries could be that it helps build expectations for certain genres, e.g. horror or action, for audiences as once they recognise these repeating aspects of mise-en-scene in a genre they like, they would be more likely to watch certain films and TV channels that include these aspects. Therefore they can exploit these certain aspects to gain a larger, and loyal, audience.
