Film & TV Language: Sound video feedback and learner response

1) Type up your feedback from your teacher.

WWW:

  • Videos and still images
  • Good choice of images
  • Good pace
  • Use of dissolve transition
  • Good parallel section
  • Own images and footage
EBI:
  • Contrapuntal section not clear

2) Type up your feedback from fellow students - you can summarise key points if several students give you similar feedback.

WWW:

  • Good variety of images and videos
  • Good use of parallel sound
  • Exactly one minute long
  • Use of music
  • Good editing
  • Own images
EBI:
  • Contrapuntal could be clearer
  • Make the images on beat to the song

3) Now reflect on your work and write your own evaluation of your video. Write a 'What went well' (WWW) paragraph and a paragraph for 'Even Better If' (EBI) underneath the rest of your feedback.

I think the use of transitions was well used as it made the video smoother. Furthermore, I think the parallel sound was a good option as it clearly matches the pictures at the begining. However, I believe I can work on making my contrapuntal sound clearer by using other images and could also work on making the images be on beat to the music.

4) Learner response: compare your own video against your evaluation of the top three videos in the class. Whose did you think was best and why? How could you have improved your own video?

I think Maya's, Tara's and Ramla's videos were the top three as their contrapuntal and parallel sound was clear. I liked the fact that they all used their own photos and videos. I think I can improve my own work by working on the contrapuntal sound aspect of my work to be similar to their work.

5) Finally, what have you learned about the importance of sound to film and TV through this week's work?

I learnt that sound anchors meaning within TV and films, as well as communicating meaning and foreshadowing shifts in the plot. Additionally, sound is helpful to create a certain atmosphere that producers want to reinforce. It also helps audiences feel as if the story is real and helps immerse audiences in the plot using non-diegetic audio, as it is realistic.
